As for oval type and octagonal type, oval type has bigger flange groove deformation.It is because gasket itself is deformed while bolt is extended until arriving to constant pressure by increased flange connection pressure and line contact is moved to surface contact as well. Therefore, it has good initial sealing performance but gasket is largely deformed.When Octagonal type is internally pressured, contact pressure with flange is increased, which is initially connected to surface contact. So it requests high connection pressure. But as for sealing characteristics, we can’t clearly say what type is better. Generally, octagonal type is widely used.
